Deep sea fishing in Dubai

The grounds are an hour offshore, which changes everything about how you book — season, departure time and the duration that is actually worth paying for.

At a glance: deep sea fishing charters from Dubai run best October to April, leaving between 06:00 and 07:00. Four hours is the practical minimum and six is better, because the productive grounds are roughly an hour offshore. Rods, tackle, bait and ice are included; no personal licence is needed.

Why four hours is the floor

The grounds worth fishing off Dubai sit about an hour out, which means a charter's stated duration and its fishing time are two very different numbers. On a four-hour trip you spend roughly an hour running out, two hours fishing and an hour coming back. On a two-hour trip you barely arrive.

Charter lengthActual fishing timeReaches
4 hours~2 hoursNear and mid grounds
6 hours~4 hoursMid grounds, more drift attempts
8 hours~6 hoursOffshore, best shot at pelagics

This is the single most useful thing to know before booking, because a cheap short charter is not cheap per hour of fishing. Six hours is where most guests land.

Season and time of day

October through April is the fishing season off Dubai. Cooler water brings the fish closer in, the sea is generally kinder, and standing on an open deck is comfortable rather than punishing. Between May and September the water warms, the productive marks move further offshore and the heat compresses everything into the first hours of daylight.

Departure time matters as much as season. A 06:00 to 07:00 start gives calm water, the strongest feeding window and the coolest air of the day. Afternoon charters run and do catch fish, but consistently produce less — particularly in summer, when an afternoon on deck is hard work regardless of what is biting.

A six-hour trip leaving at six in the morning in January will out-fish a four-hour trip leaving at two in the afternoon in July, every time.

What you can expect to catch

The Arabian Gulf off Dubai holds a genuinely varied inshore and mid-water fishery. Common catches:

  • Kingfish — the target species for most charters, strong and fast, best in the cooler months
  • Queenfish — spectacular on light tackle, often caught on the run out
  • Cobia — larger and dogged, a real fight when they show
  • Barracuda — reliable and aggressive across the season
  • Grouper (hamour) — bottom fishing on the reefs and wrecks
  • Snapper and trevally — steady numbers on the near grounds

Sailfish and the larger pelagics are possible on a full-day trip further offshore in the right conditions. They are a genuine possibility, not a promise, and any operator who guarantees one is selling something they cannot deliver.

Tackle, licence and the catch

  • Provided: rods, reels, tackle, bait, ice for the catch, soft drinks, water, towels and safety equipment.
  • Licence: not needed for you as a guest. The operator holds the permits and the crew is responsible for compliance with size limits and protected species.
  • Your own gear: welcome. Experienced anglers who prefer their own rods should bring them.
  • The catch: yours to keep within legal limits. The crew can clean and fillet it before you disembark. Undersized fish and protected species go back.

What a fishing charter costs

Fishing is priced as a private yacht booking rather than per angler, so the whole boat is yours:

YachtAnglersHourly6-hour trip
42 ftup to 12450 AEDfrom 2,700 AED
56 ftup to 20900 AEDfrom 5,400 AED

Six anglers on the 42ft for six hours works out at roughly 450 AED each for the day, tackle included. The full rate structure and the list of what is billed separately sits on the prices page.

What to bring

  • A hat, polarised sunglasses and high-factor sunscreen. There is limited shade on the fishing deck.
  • Soft-soled shoes with grip. Decks get wet.
  • A light windproof layer for the run out at dawn, even in winter.
  • Motion sickness tablets taken before departure if you are prone — they do not work once you are already unwell.
  • A cool box if you intend to take a large catch home; ice is on board but transport is yours.

Frequently asked questions

How much does deep sea fishing in Dubai cost?

A fishing charter is priced as a private yacht booking, so from 450 AED per hour on the 42ft for up to 12 anglers and from 900 AED per hour on the 56ft for up to 20. Rods, tackle and bait are included on packages that list fishing; ice and soft drinks come as standard.

How long should a fishing trip in Dubai be?

Four hours is the practical minimum and six is better. It takes roughly an hour to reach the productive grounds offshore, so a four-hour charter gives about two hours of actual fishing. Anything shorter is a boat trip with rods on it.

What fish can you catch off Dubai?

Kingfish, queenfish, cobia, barracuda, grouper, snapper and trevally are the common catches on the near and mid grounds. Sailfish and larger pelagics are possible further offshore in the right season, but they are not a promise on a half-day charter.

What is the best season for fishing in Dubai?

October through April. The water is cooler, the fish are closer in, and the conditions on deck are comfortable. May to September still fishes, but the heat pushes trips into the early morning and the productive grounds move further out.

What time do fishing charters leave?

Early. A departure between 06:00 and 07:00 gives you the calmest water, the best feeding window and the coolest part of the day. Afternoon fishing charters run but consistently produce less, particularly in summer.

Do I need a fishing licence in Dubai?

Not as a guest on a licensed charter. The operator holds the permits for commercial recreational fishing and the crew is responsible for compliance, including size limits and protected species. You do not need to arrange anything yourself.

Is fishing tackle provided or do I bring my own?

Rods, reels, tackle and bait are provided on fishing charters, along with ice for the catch. Experienced anglers are welcome to bring their own gear if they prefer it.

Can I keep the fish I catch?

Yes, within the legal size and species limits the crew will explain on board. Ice is provided. The crew can clean and fillet the catch before you disembark. Protected species and undersized fish go back in the water.
